Milton H Frem

December 26, 1937 — January 25, 2021

Milton H. Frem passed away on January 25, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Hospital after a long and hard fought battle with COVID-19.

He is survived by his beloved wife Arlene, to whom he was married to for 61 years; his son Joseph; his daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Michael; and his four granddaughters, Emily, Allison, Samantha and Sydney. He is also survived by his brother Robert and his wife Elizabeth, his sister Louise and her husband Joseph and several nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Worcester, Milton graduated from Worcester Academy. He established Frem Corporation with his father, of which he ultimately became President. He was an active member within his community as a member of Temple Emanuel and Temple Sinai, Executive Director of B’Nai Brith Cemetery, board member of the Jewish Healthcare Center, and sponsored to be a member of Level Lodge of Masons by his son.

Milton was an accomplished swimmer specializing in the butterfly stroke and coached swimming at the Worcester Jewish Community Center. He had a passion for gardening and loved to be outside. Many will also say he was the original Mr. Clean; everything had its place and Milton made sure of it.

Nothing was more important to Milton than his family and friends. In fact, he was at his happiest when he was surrounded by others. His love was contagious, and he was known as the Mayor of the JCC because he spoke to everyone he saw. However, his most cherished title was “Poppy,” the name by which his granddaughters knew him. He will be deeply missed by all of those who knew him.

Out of an abundance of caution, private funeral services and burial in B’Nai Brith Cemetery were held privately.  The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.   The family requests that contributions in Milton’s memory be made to the Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester, 01609.
