Joseph R Perrone

March 6, 1933 — February 16, 2021

Joseph R. “Joe” Perrone 87, was stricken at his home and passed away peacefully at UMass Hospital Worcester on Tuesday February 16, 2021.  Born in Worcester on March 6, 1933, Joe was the last of eight children born to Antonio and Bomina (Genese) Perrone.

Joe leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years Delores “June” (Pane) Perrone and their two daughters Tina (Perrone) Duxbury and her husband Clifford “Craig” Duxbury of Worcester and Theresa (Perrone) Holland and her husband John Holland who passed away in 2013 also of Worcester.  He leaves 2 grandchildren Christina Castell of Hyannis Ma, and Matthew Duxbury of Groton Ma.  Joe also leaves behind a sister Stellina Cicero and two sisters in-laws Anna Perrone and Patricia Sills and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. 

Joe was predeceased in death by his parents, sisters Rose Perrone, Louisa Marchese, Loretta Ferro, and Rose Finne, and by his brothers Samuel Perrone and Vincent Perrone.   

Joe, a lifelong resident of the city, was a graduate of Commerce High School.  He joined the Army after high school and was stationed in Germany, from 1953 to 1955 where he was a linesman, proudly serving his country for two years.  Upon leaving the service, Joe worked at Boston Beef and then spent the next 30 years with the City of Worcester in the DPW before retiring.

Joe was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church Worcester and a proud member of the Pope John XX111 Knights of Columbus where he served as House Manager, serving as bar tender and catering their many occasions.

Joe had a great zest for life, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends and spending time with his family.  Joe also enjoyed spending time at his home on Cape Cod where he spent many summers.  He was an avid sports fan, loved the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics.  Joe touched many lives and will be remembered and missed greatly by family and friends. 

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Thursday February 25, 2021.  Calling hours will be from 9:00 – 10:00AM at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Worcester, Ma 10605 followed by a funeral Mass at 11AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 1290 Grafton St. Worcester, Ma 01604.  Burial with military honors will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery Worcester. 

For everyone’s protection, COVID precautions will be strictly observed at the funeral home, at church and at the cemetery including no physical contact, social distancing, and face masks.
