Listen to Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Yvette (Richard) O’Brien, 81, of Worcester, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was the beloved wife of the late, John O’Brien.

Born March 12, 1945, in Worcester, Yvette was the daughter of the late Clement and Hilda (Suprenaunt) Richard. Yvette was a devout Catholic who grew up as a member of Our Lady of the Angels and later became a member of the congregation at St. Pius Church in Leicester. She went to school at Our Lady of the Angels, Ascension and St. Peters, graduating in the class of 1962. Yvette worked for many years as a medical assistant at Dalton Rest Home, Memorial Hospital and the Providence House Nursing Home. She also worked for many years as a waitress at Big Boys in Webster Square. Always quick with a joke – even if it was one she told you before…several times – and loved to talk with strangers – usually telling stories about her children and grandchildren...usually the most embarrassing ones. She never liked to talk on the phone but always made a point to call her family and friends just to check in and say hello...even if it was just for a minute or two. Yvette absolutely loved dogs and never went anywhere without a pocket full of dog treats for any dog lucky enough to cross her path. Generous to a fault, she always gave to people in need – even when she really didn’t have the money to give. If she knew you, she probably sent you a birthday card, and you were definitely getting a gift at Christmas…which she usually bought for you two years ago. She loved nothing more than to do kind things for other people.

Yvette is survived by her loving children, Deborah Bonnette of Leicester, Daniel Bonnette and his wife Patricia of Worcester, John O’Brien of Worcester, Kevin O’Brien of Worcester and Colleen Morgan of Worcester; her adored grandchildren, Daniel Veroneau, Megan Veroneau, Ryan Bonnette, Ashley Bonnette, Christopher Gaffney, Kayla Colombo-Gaffney, Kelsea O’Brien, Brianna (O’Brien) Sifferlen, Kevin O’Brien and Tim Coleman; her beloved siblings, Larry Richard of Toronto, Canada, Therese Cardinal of Worcester, Lucille Richard of Lyon, France and Clement Richard of Grafton; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Sadly, in addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Yvette was predeceased by her brother Robert Richard and her grandson Matthew Gaffney.

We will miss Yvette immensely but her warm heart and love for us will live forever in our hearts.
