Bill especially enjoyed spending quality time with his family and cherished his role as a grandfather.
William G. Burgoyne, 73, of The Villages, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Born on September 4th in Worcester, MA, to George and Dorothy (Hutchinson) Burgoyne, Bill was raised in Boylston, MA, and graduated from Tahanto Regional High School in 1970. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed aboard the USS Fidelity in Turks and Caicos and later in Panama City, FL. After completing his military service, he attended North Adams College, where he earned a degree in business. He went on to work for many years as a contract administrator with Getronics/CompuCom before retiring.
Bill was a longtime member of Saint Michael’s on the Heights Church, where he generously served in many roles over the years, including treasurer, senior warden, and vestry member. His commitment to the church and its community was an important part of his life.
Bill especially enjoyed spending quality time with his family and cherished his role as a grandfather. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and for always finding a way to make someone smile. In 2020, Bill and Julie moved to The Villages, FL, where they enjoyed making memories with dear friends, listening to music at the Village squares, and soaking up the Florida sunshine by the pool. These years brought Bill many happy moments and friendships that he treasured.
He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and for always finding a way to make someone smile.
Bill is survived by his beloved soulmate and wife of 49 years, Julie (Morton) Burgoyne; his son, Shawn, and his wife, Tina, of Gardner, MA; his daughters, Julie Desilet and her husband, Mike, of Manchester, CT, and Jennifer Bruinsma and her husband, Chris, of Millbury, MA; and his sister, Dorothy Josephson. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sarah Burgoyne, in 2024, and his brother, Fred Burgoyne, in 2022. He will be deeply missed by his fifteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with William’s family from 4:00–7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Saint Michael’s on the Heights Church, 340 Burncoat Street, Worcester, MA 01606. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
