Walter J. Holmes

Walter J. Holmes, 74, of Northborough, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026.

Walter is survived by his loving children, Josiah Dempsey-Holmes, Jeff Dempsey-Holmes and Shannon Cantwell; his adored grandchildren, Josiah and Alijah Dempsey-Holmes, Liam Holmes, Alexandria Holmes, Raven Cantwell and Nova Cantwell; his cherished siblings, Patricia Martinez and Walter’s brother-in-law Gonzalo Martinez Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Walter was predeceased by his mother Marian and his father Walter.

Born on November 28, 1951, in Waltham, Walter was the son of the late Walter R. and Marian L. (Hathaway) Holmes.

Walter was a loving and kind man. In his younger years he loved to draw and play video games. He was a gamer before it was even a thing! He was athletic and very fast! Always running! Walter loved to play tricks on his children by folding his eyelids up and appearing to look like a monster! We were scared, but we loved it! Even through tough life changing events, Walter always maintained a smile on his face and stayed with a positive attitude. Gone but never forgotten and always in our hearts! We love you dad!

Walter will be laid to rest in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel are honored to assist the family with arrangements.
