Vitie S. Rakauskas, a lifelong Shrewsbury resident, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026. Six days prior, he happily celebrated his 99th birthday on August 27 with family members and his cherished caregiver.

He is predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret Rose (Finnegan) Rakauskas who he was married to for 57 years. He leaves a son, Stephen J. Rakauskas and wife Chu Son of Sutton, MA; a daughter Lorri Rosenbruch Gerry and her husband, Paul of Nashua, NH; and a daughter, Nancy Hurley, of Lagos, Portugal. He also leaves 4 grandchildren; Andrew Rakauskas and his fiancée Jess Whitener of Shoreline, Washington; Alissa (Rakauskas) Salvador and her husband James of Haverhill, MA; Alec Rosenbruch and his wife Samantha of Springfield, NJ; and Leslie Rosenbruch and her fiancé Jesse Vardaro of Malden, MA. In addition, he leaves 4 great-grandchildren, Oliver, Ren, Reese and Rye.

Vitie was born in Worcester, MA, the son of Victor and Anna Rakauskas, and lived there before moving to Shrewsbury in 1958. Besides his parents, his brother Albin and his sister Irene Kuraisa predeceased him.

He graduated from Commerce High School in 1946 and from the University of Miami, FL in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division as an Investigator in Nagoya, Japan, in 1948.

Vitie was a Test Engineering Manager for 21 years until he retired from C&K Components in Newton in 2000. He was also a machine designer at Dennison Manufacturing Co. in Framingham, MA, and the Heald Machine Co. in Worcester, MA.

Vitie was a long-time member of St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury, MA. He was a soloist with the Our Lady of Vilna Church Choir in Worcester and enjoyed performing on many stage shows.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 10:30 am-11:30 am at Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A funeral mass will follow at 12:00 pm at St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anne’s Human Services, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA.
