Vidal Martinez

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Vidal Martinez, 77, of Boylston, on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Born in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, on July 2, 1948, Vidal was the son of the late Quitin Martinez and Petra Melendez.

Vidal loved many things in life, but above all, he cherished his family. He was a kind, loving, caring, and hardworking man who always put others before himself.

In a world where everyone has flaws, Vidal always found a way to show his goodness and make things right. He had a special way of letting people know they were loved and valued.

Known affectionately as “Casco,” a name given to him by his mother, he was a calm and gentle soul. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially spending peaceful moments watching sports. He enjoyed baseball, horse racing, and playing games like dominoes.

Vidal held a deep love for his homeland, Puerto Rico—the beaches, the weather, and the spirit of the island meant so much to him.

Though Vidal is no longer with us and we will forever miss him, we will carry him with us in all that we do.

Vidal is survived by his loving children Angelica Madison, Vidal Martinez Cordero, and Rosa Martinez Cordero; his ex-wife, Margarita Cordero; his cherished siblings, Elena Martinez, Rosa Maria Martinez, Juana Martinez, Andes Martinez, Juan Martinez; his adored grandchildren, Grace M. Rivera, Carlos M. Rivera, Kasey M. Rivera, Luis Martinez, Jailene Martinez, Stephanie Martinez, Alex Martinez, Argenis Cordova; his great grandchildren, Kai’omi, Emmanuel, Angelis, Jeremiah, and Jaylianie.

A Calling Hour will be held for Vidal on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester from 9:30am to 10:30am. Interment will follow at Hope Cemetery, Worcester. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vidal’s memory by calling the funeral home and donating directly to his Funeral Arrangements.
