Tom was born in Everett, son of the late Daniel and Christine (Savage) McGonagle. He was a great pool player, playing competitively for over 60 years all over New England. He won numerous New England 9-Ball championships and shared his love of the game with the countless students he instructed. He cherished giving pool lessons to Everett High School students as a volunteer. Tom was a relentless promoter of pool and was inducted into the New England Pool Hall of Fame as both a player and contributor to the game.
He also enjoyed golf, baseball, and basketball- whether it was playing or watching. Tom especially loved supporting and rooting for his children and grandchildren at sporting events. He coached many youth sports teams and is fondly remembered as a great motivator. He was a member of the Auburn Elks where he loved to play poker and spend time with his friends. Tom also loved to sing karaoke and to entertain a crowd. Above all, Tom’s greatest passion in life was his family. His sons and grandchildren were the light of his life, as well his loving wife Barbara. In Tom’s words, they were all “unbelievable!”
