Theresa (Sasso) Bodinizzo, 90, a lifelong Worcester resident and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, August 19, 2025. She is reunited in heaven with the “love of her life” and husband of 54 years, Michael A. Bodinizzo, who left her side on September 9, 2008.
Theresa was born in Brooklyn, New York, the only child of Italian immigrants, the late Vincent and Angelina (Squeo) Sasso. With her parents, she came to Worcester as a five-year-old, where she was raised and graduated from Venerini Academy. She spent many years assisting in her father’s business, Sasso Masonry, where she worked with dedication and pride in support of her family’s legacy.
In 1954, Theresa met and married Michael, and together they settled in the family home on Alvarado Avenue, where they raised their children in a home filled with love, faith, and devotion. Theresa relished her role as a wife and mother, supporting her husband and children as a stay-at-home mom and later cherishing her role as a grandmother. Some of her most treasured moments were the years she spent lovingly caring for her grandchildren when they were small.
She is survived by her four children: Mary Hicks and her husband Millard of West Brookfield; Vincent Bodinizzo and his wife April of Holden; Angela Clemmer of Millbury; and Terry Ward also of Millbury. Theresa also leaves behind eight adored grandchildren—Natalie, Tina, Brittney, Lauren, Michael, Anthony, Nicole, and Jennifer; two great-grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Theresa was a devoted parishioner of St. Margaret Mary’s Parish, where she was active for many years and served as president of the Catholic Daughters Association. She was also a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and its Golden Years Association. She enjoyed a simple, fulfilling life centered around family, faith, and friendship. She loved cooking, and was well know for the most amazing Eggplant Parmesan. She also enjoyed hosting gatherings, playing bingo and surrounding herself with her children, grandchildren, and friends. Theresa delighted in organizing bus trips to the casino with her friends, always making sure that everyone had a good time. She was a generous, kindhearted woman with a big heart who gave generously of herself. She sacrificed much for the people she loved, always willing to go out of her way to help anyone in need.
Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, where her children’s friends, neighbors, and loved ones always knew they would find kindness and a good meal. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her devotion, generosity, and love.
A period of calling hours will be held Monday, August 25th from 10:30 am to 12 noon, followed by a prayer service in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Entombment will follow in St. John Mausoleum.
