Steven J. Hyjek, 68, of Holden, formerly passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024, with the “love of his Life”, wife and best friend, Darlene by his side after a long series of health challenges. 

Steven was born in Rutland Vermont, the son of Patricia (DiFrancisco) Hyjek the late John Hyjek. He grew up in Williamstown, MA and earned his Associate degree from Wentworth Institute. Steven then founded in 1988, and served as President of Backcare Basics for over 25 years before retiring. 

Steven is survived by his wife of 31 years Darlene; his mother, Patricia (DiFrancisco) Hyjek of Fredericksburg, VA; a sister, Jonnie-Lee desCognets of Pittsfield; a nephew, Nick; his beloved pet dog, Churchill: extended family and friends. 

 Steven was a member of St John’s church. He enjoyed watching all sports, notably Bruins and Patriots. He loved blues music, playing the guitar, animals, and gardening. In his youth he hiked, rode dirt bikes, and vigorously watched Motorcross. He had a great sense of humor and a contagious smile.

A period of calling hours will be held Thursday, March 14th from 11:30 am to 12:15 followed by his funeral mass at 12:30 pm in St John’s Church. Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Tunnel 2 Towers foundation, www.t2t.org. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
