Sofika (Nunka) Brahimaj, 74, of Westborough, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 6, 1951, in Korçë, Albania, Sofika was the cherished daughter of the late Panajot and Lirika (Tilko) Nunka. She carried with her a deep appreciation for beauty, family, and generosity that shaped every chapter of her life.
Sofika is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Muharrem Brahimaj of Westborough; her loving son, Engert Brahimaj, and his wife, Venera, also of Westborough; and her adored grandsons, Kevin and Ryan Brahimaj, who were the joy and light of her later years.
She is also survived by her siblings: Iliriana (Liliana) Mile of Albania; Nikollaq Nunka and his wife, Diana, of Florida; and Viollanda Hoxha and her husband, Edmond, of Needham, Massachusetts. Sofika leaves behind her loving nieces, Ina Harten of Needham, Massachusetts; Nida Collaku of Miami, Florida; and Ada Mile of Brussels, Belgium, along with cherished grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Sofika spent her life nurturing both her family and her community. She found joy in giving, helping others, and recognizing beauty in nature and in people. She was known for her welcoming home, her beautifully prepared table, and the wonderful meals shared with family and friends who always felt enriched by her warmth, generosity, and joyful company.
In retirement, she poured her heart into raising her two grandsons, embracing every moment with love and pride. Throughout her life, Sofika touched countless lives and will be remembered as a loving, smiling, and deeply giving person—one who freely shared her time, her resources, and even a simple cup of coffee with anyone in need. She believed it was truly a blessing to give rather than receive, and her generosity knew no bounds.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Sofika will be laid to rest at Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
Her memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
