Shawkat Afram Naoum

Shawkat Afram Naoum, 83, of Worcester, a dedicated family man, passed away surrounded by loved ones Saturday, September 27th, 2025.

Born in Qamishli, Syria, one of seven children of Afram and Marin (Estephan) Naoum. He was raised in Syria, earned his degree in architecture in Aleppo and then traveled the world, from Dubai, to the U.S and around the World constructing buildings, houses and structures before retiring. Shawkat then became a devoted husband, father and cherished grandfather doting on his family and friends. 

Shawkat is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shamiram (Bakkal) Naoum; his daughter, Meryam Saliiby and her husband George of Worcester; two brothers, Elias Naoum and Samir Naoum both in Colorado; three sisters, Amal Naoum in Colorado, Samira Malke in Sweden, and Rosa Naoum in Los Angeles; three adored granddaughters, Jiselle, Lillian and Sabien; Many nieces, nephews and extended family around the World in the US, Canada, Sweden, Syria and Europe. In addition to his parents, a brother Henry predeceased him. 

In Shawkat’s life nothing was more important than his family. He believed the world of his granddaughters and cherished every moment he could spend with them. He also enjoyed cooking. 

Calling Hours will be held in Saint Mary's Syriac Orthodox Church on Thursday night and Friday morning as follows:

Friends and family are invited to calling hours Thursday, October 2nd from 5 pm to 8 pm. and again from 10:00 to 10:45 Friday, October 3rd followed by his funeral service at 11:00 am in St Mary’s Syriac Orthodox church, 1 Industrial Drive,  Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to Saint Mary Syriac Orthodox Church, 1 Industrial Dr Shrewsbury 01545.
