Rosemarie (Reno) Swindell, 83, a longtime resident of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 17, 2025 with loved ones gathered at her side. She is reunited in heaven with the love of her life and husband, Harold I. Swindell, who passed away in 2013.
Rosemarie was born in Worcester, the daughter of Frank and Carmella (Pingatore) Reno. She earned her Registered Nursing degree from the St Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She then met and married Harold Swindell and settled in Auburn in 1973, raising their family with faith, family, and dedication, before Harold left her side. Rosemarie worked as a nurse for several medical facilities, including St Vincent Hospital and the Medical Office of Dr. Mariani, among others, before retiring.
Rosemarie is survived by the two children she was so proud of: Mary Beth Swindell-Mullane and her husband, John, of Suffield, CT, Major General Sean P. Swindell, US Army (Ret.) and his wife, Jerri Lynn, of Pinehurst, NC; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Hannah, Sophia and Santo; two brothers, Francis A. Reno and his wife Donna, Paul F. Reno and his wife Patricia; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Rose was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin, with a huge heart, giant smile and kind way who helped anyone she could. She also loved to entertain and found her greatest moments surrounded by her family during the holidays, special occasions and family dinners.
A period of gathering to honor Rosemarie will be held Monday, December 22nd from 9 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd. where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial next to her husband and parents will follow in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in her name can be made to Notre Dame Academy Endowment Fund, 425 Salisbury St. Worcester 01609
