Rita B. Yankauskas, a life-long resident of Worcester, passed away peacefully at 104 years old, on Saturday, April 25, 2026. She is survived and greatly missed by her son Adam Yankauskas III and his husband Philip Bingeman of New Hope, PA; three daughters- Carol Yankauskas of Falmouth, MA, Joan Davini and her husband Bruce of Millbury, MA, and Debrah Azarbyjani of Spencer, MA; two grandchildren Bijan Azarbyjani and his fiancée Candice Cheverie and Darius Azarbyjani; and one great grandchild Bijan Azarbyjani. She was predeceased by her husband Adam J. Yankauskas, Jr. in 1968.
Rita was born in Worcester on November 9, 1921, daughter of the late John and Mary (Joseph) Agbay. One of Rita’s greatest passions was dancing. She pursued ballroom dancing with remarkable enthusiasm throughout her life, continuing to dance until the age of 99. Her talent and dedication did not go unnoticed, as she earned awards recognizing her skill and grace on the dance floor. Dancing was not just a pastime but a defining element of her identity, a source of joy and accomplishment that she held dear to her heart.
Beyond her passion for dance, Rita cherished her extensive Betty Boop collection, a unique and treasured hobby that reflected her appreciation for timeless charm and nostalgia. She also loved to travel, especially frequent trips to New York City where she delighted in shopping, dining and attending Broadway shows.
Rita’s family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Jewish Healthcare Center Hospice team that were so kind and attentive to Rita’s care.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 12:00pm. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or by clicking here to donate.
