Richard J. Muello, 92, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Worcester, beloved father, grandfather, husband, partner, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025 after a period of declining health.
The son of William A. and Mary (Connelly) Muello, and step-mother Madeline (Picardi) Muello, Richard was born in Cambridge and raised in Arlington.
A formidable athlete and standout football player, he attended Arlington High School earning the reputation as one of the best blocking backs in school boy history, and ultimately in college football. Upon graduation, he attended the University of New Hampshire graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1955. Richard then enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam era and served as 1st Lieutenant of Artillery in the US Army from 1956-1958 in Germany.
Richard’s professional sales career began at Norton Company (Saint-Gobain), and culminated with the establishment of his own corporation, RJM Distributors, Inc. It was during this time that Richard raised his young family with Marilyn in Northborough, MA, refereeing football in the fall, spending summers in Dennisport, and winters on the slopes.
As a member of NASJA (North American Ski Journalists Association), and President of ESWA (Eastern Ski Writers Association) he was on a constant quest for the best ski resorts in the USA, South America, and Europe. Richard co-authored & edited Publisher’s Group International’s ‘The Blue Book of European Ski Resorts’ with a focus on Italy, and wrote for a variety of other publications.
Richard enjoyed a life of love, laughter, travel, and shared memories of times at the Cape, Florida, and skiing with his family and friends. Late in life, he & Eileen spent time on the beaches of Wellfleet, and wintered in Juno Beach, FL. Richard was pragmatic, dependable, and the one to go to for advice or to solve a problem. He always reminded us to do it while you can, because nothing lasts forever. Richard will be deeply missed by all who love him.
Richard is survived by his children: Mary L. Muello of Northborough, Richard P. Muello and partner Ted Juracsik of Boca Raton FL, and Christopher J. Muello of Shrewsbury; son-in-law Bryan C. Bolden of Falmouth; ex-wife Marilyn J. Baldarelli of Northborough; longtime companion Eileen Fox of Framingham; brother Paul J. Muello of Framingham; grandchildren Gianni J. Muello, Bryan D. Bolden (Brianna), Meredith J. Bolden; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Daughter, Karen E. Bolden and brothers William A.”Sonny” and Robert F. Muello predeceased him.
