Richard E. Landry, 80, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Gavin); his son, Richard F. Landry and his wife Betsy; his daughter Denise M. Fife and her husband William; and his cherished grandchildren; Kailey M. Fife and her fiancé, Justin Brindamour; Kathleen R. Landry; Joshua W. Fife; and Margaret C. Landry. He also leaves behind his sister, Joan Powlics, and the close-knit extended Landry and Gavin families.
Born in Worcester, Richard was the son of the late Frederick and Leora (Noble) Landry. He was predeceased by his brother, Carl Landry, and his sisters, Lorraine Williams, Barbara Wilson, Alice Daniels, and Dorothy Trottier.
Richard found his greatest joy in the company of his family, especially during the frequent celebrations that marked their lives together. He enjoyed cooking, and he ensured no family gathering ever lacked for good food, especially those held at the English Social Club or hosted by his dear sister- and brother-in-law, Barbara and Sanford Schulman.
A true do-it-yourself enthusiast, Richard, alongside his favorite assistants, Rick and Bill, fully renovated the home he shared with Dot. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he approached every home project with enthusiasm, and in recent years, proudly took on the role of “supervisor” for Rick’s and Bill’s projects.
Richard was a hardworking man who found joy in sharing his passions with others. He held positions at Polini’s Bakery and later at the bakery at Wegmans, where his colleagues nicknamed him the “Bread King.” His love of building and renovation led him to also work at Somerville Lumber.
Kind, generous, and deeply devoted to his loved ones, Richard lived a happy and fulfilling life. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 21st, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM at Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.
