Anyone who knew Peter knew his laugh before they heard his voice.

With hearts broken by loss yet comforted by the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ, we celebrate the life of Peter P. Rovezzi, who entered into the arms of his Savior on Monday, July 27th.

Peter was born in Worcester, one of two sons to William “Coogan” and Gloria (Acquaro) Rovezzi, where family wasn't just important—it was everything. Surrounded by cousins, neighbors, and lifelong friends, he spent his childhood doing what he loved most: playing sports from sunrise until the streetlights came on. He was a happy kid with endless energy, an adventurous spirit, and a smile that never stayed away for long.

That love of sports followed him to Saint Peter-Marian High School, where he became an outstanding basketball and baseball player. After graduation, Peter attended Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he continued pursuing baseball year-round.

His talent eventually took him overseas to Bologna, Italy, where he played professional baseball for BeCa Carne and proudly represented the Italian National Team. One of the greatest honors of his athletic career came in 1984 when he represented Italy in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles—a moment he treasured not for the recognition, but for the opportunity to compete at the highest level doing what he loved.

But if you asked Peter what mattered most in his life, he would never have started with baseball. He would have started with his faith.

Peter was a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving grandfather, and a fiercely loyal friend. He loved deeply and completely. His greatest victories weren't measured on a scoreboard but in the family he loved with all his heart.

Anyone who knew Peter knew his laugh before they heard his voice. It was impossible not to smile when he laughed, and it was just as impossible not to get caught up in one of his stories. Whether he was reminiscing about childhood, baseball, or everyday life, he had a way of making ordinary moments unforgettable. His larger-than-life personality filled every room, and his sense of humor left people laughing long after he finished talking.

A lifelong fan of The Who, he passed his love of classic rock on to his children, creating memories that will forever be tied to familiar songs played a little too loud. Sports remained another lifelong passion. Although he grew up in the heart of Massachusetts, he proudly rooted for the New York Yankees, Rangers, and Knicks—a loyalty that often-sparked spirited debates with friends and family. Seeing the Knicks finally win the 2026 NBA Championship was one celebration he especially enjoyed.

His legacy lives on in every lesson he taught, every laugh he shared, every act of kindness he offered.

Peter's faith in Jesus Christ sustained him throughout his life. He believed in God's grace, trusted in His plan, and found peace in His promises. Even in life's most difficult moments, Peter's faith remained steadfast. Today, while those who love him mourn his absence, they find hope in knowing that he has been welcomed into the eternal presence of his Lord, where there is no more pain, only perfect peace.

Peter leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by awards, statistics, or accomplishments. His legacy lives on in every lesson he taught, every laugh he shared, every act of kindness he offered, and every life he touched.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa, his children, daughter Carla Carroll and husband Brian Carroll; and two sons Vincent Rovezzi; and newly married Anthony and wife Christina. He was a proud stepfather to Jake and Madyson Shea, and the greatest dog Dad to his beloved, River. He leaves behind his brother, James Rovezzi of Florida; his uncle, Joseph Rovezzi, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday; and aunts, Dorothy Chronchio and Lillian Costello.

He will always be remembered by the mother of his children, Christine Rovezzi, and his lifelong best friend since they were 14 years old, Mike Razzano, whom he spoke to at least once per day.

On June 13, 2020, he became Puppa Pete to his most treasured grandson, Luke Peter Carroll, who he loved to play golf, baseball, and basketball with teaching him at a very early age that, “Puppa’s a Legend!”

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 from 4-7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 5th at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Christian burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
