Paula (Corbett) Lapomardo

Paula L. (Corbett) Lapomardo, 74, of York Beach, Maine formerly of Worcester passed away peacefully Friday, March 18th, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.

Paula was born in Worcester, one of three children of Timothy and Louise (Howard) Corbett.  Raised in the Tatnuck neighborhood of Worcester, she graduated from Notre Dame Academy and earned her bachelor’s degree from Worcester State College and her master’s degree in education from Cambridge College. Paula began a 36-year career as a teacher beginning at Sacred Heart Academy, and then the Worcester School system notably at Quinsigamond and Nelson Place schools before retiring in 2005. She was also a licensed real estate broker. In 2009, Paula moved to the home she spent many summers, York Beach in Maine where she lived with her two brothers. For the past several years, she split her time in Maine with her daughter and family in Wales, MA. 

Paula is survived by her two children, a son, Jonathan and his wife Jeanine of Shrewsbury, Lesley E. Mahoney, and her husband Joseph of Wales; four grandchildren whom she adored, baby sat for, and cherished all the time she could spend with them, William “Billy”, Timothy “Timmy”, Vincent and Grace; two brothers Timothy “Tim” Corbett, Jr. and retired Worcester Police Officer William “Billy” Corbett both of York Beach; two nieces, and many extended family members and friends. 

Paula was a member of Christ the King church, before moving to York Beach, becoming an active member and volunteer of Star of the Sea; A generous woman with a big heart and giving sense, she became very active in the York Beach area.  She was very active in the care and activities surrounding the famed Nubble Lighthouse. Its Christmas lighting was her favorite and the pageantry surrounding it. She was an enthusiastic photographer, always with a camera or cellphone ready to record something, loved gardening, hosting neighbors, artwork, holidays and special occasions when her family could be around her. 

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Wednesday, March 23rd from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.  Her funeral will be Thursday, March 24th from the funeral home with a procession to Christ the King church, 1052 Pleasant Street where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Way, Memphis Tenn.   www.stjude.org/donate.
