Oswald "Ozzie" Sauer

He was a devoted member of American Legion Post 398 in Boylston and regularly participated in Veteran’s events throughout the town.

Oswald “Ozzie” J. Sauer, 94, a life-long resident of Boylston, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at UMass Hospital, surrounded by loving family. His wife of fifty-seven years, Eleanor (Keulian) Sauer, predeceased him in 2013.

Ozzie was born to the late, Hans and Anna (Bowler) Sauer. He is survived by his children, Wayne Sauer and his wife Donna; Todd Sauer and his wife Jean; and Brenda (Sauer) O'Brien and her husband Scott all of Boylston; five grandchildren, Amanda Barter and her husband Terry, Alison Sauer Kelley and her husband Ryan, Kristen Sauer, Jenna and Cameron O'Brien; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Matthew, and Eleanor “Ella” Barter. He is also survived by several of his siblings, Jane Huggins, Geraldine Ledoux, David Sauer, June Stark, and Nancy Lier; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother, Josephine Young, Anna Young, and Hans “Sonny” Sauer.

Ozzie co-owned and operated Dosco Sheetmetal and Manufacturing in Millbury, having previously worked as Plant Manager of O.S. Walker Company in Worcester. He was a lifelong member of First Congregation Church in Boylston and served as a trustee and remained actively involved in the church throughout the years. He was also active in the Senior Community of Boylston, coordinating events and played a pivotal role in the Town’s acquisition of a “Senior Van” for transportation.

He was proud of his service to his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving on the U.S.S. Missouri, U.S.S. Iowa, and U.S.S. Des Moines. He was a devoted member of American Legion Post 398 in Boylston and regularly participated in Veteran’s events throughout the town.

Ozzie and Eleanor during retirement, loved to travel in their custom RV to many parts of the country and making new friends. However, his family was everything, and life revolved around them. Whether relaxing at the beach, enjoying family cookouts, cheering on the Red Sox and Patriots, or acting as chief problem solver on home projects, family was always front and center.

Calling Hours will be on Wednesday, August 19, from 4 pm until 7 pm in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral will be on Thursday, August 20, 2026, departing the funeral home in procession at 10:30 am, enroute to an 11 am Funeral Service at First Congregational Church, 10 Church Street, Boylston. Interment with Military Funeral Honors will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston.
