Nicholas “Nick” E. Khouri, 73, of Worcester passed away on Monday, April 15th, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.
Nicholas was born in Beirut, Lebanon, the son of Elias and Rahile (Ayoub) Khouri, the fourth of five siblings. Raised in Beirut, Nicholas immigrated to the United States in 1977 as a student. He attended the Worcester Polytechnical Institute, graduating with his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He met Antoinette Bachour, they married in 1980 and later settled into a home in the Hamilton Street neighborhood of Worcester to raise their daughter.
To support his family, Nicholas accepted a position as a shift leader with the Presmet Corporation, where he worked from 1981 to 2000 before retiring. He continued to work as a devoted landlord for the 24 years that followed. Among his biggest accomplishments, Nick completed his dream project of independently building three townhomes on his property. This was done in additional to renovating his own single-family home into a multi-level residence to his exact specifications.
Nicholas is survived by his wife of 43 years, Antoinette; a daughter, Sabine Khouri Loveras and her husband, Fernando Loveras of Kissimmee, FL; a stepson, George Hamlin and his wife, Stephanie Hamlin of Waco, TX; a brother, George El-Khoury and a sister, Victoria El-Khoury both in Lebanon; four beloved grandchildren: Zión and Inaya Grace; Dylan and Addison; nieces, nephews, countless cousins, extended family and friends in the U.S., Lebanon, Canada, and France.
Nicholas was an honest, hard-working soul with a genuine smile, big heart, and an unforgettable sense of humor. He was dearly loved by his tenants over the years, all of whom he considered family. Neighbors and close friends were always drawn to his unique sarcasm and wisdom that he shared with all who would listen. Nick particularly enjoyed working with his hands; he had a special gift of repairing anything that needed fixing, while also tending his garden (his pride and joy), puttering on around his home or on any one of his cars, trucks, the motorcycle or van. Although generally private in his faith, Nick openly credits God as his source of strength during every hardship he ever overcame in life.
Calling hours for Nicholas will be held Thursday, April 18th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. and again on Friday April 19th from 10:00 am to 10:45 am followed by his funeral service in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral building fund, 30 Anna Street.
