Michael F. Lessard, 67, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at UMass Hospital in Worcester, after been stricken ill at home. His wife of thirty-five years, Jill A. (Bistany) Lessard, predeceased him in March 2022.
Michael is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Clark and her husband Mark of Phillipston; a brother, Martin “Marty” Lessard and his wife Jacqueline of Westminster; two sister in law, Jane McKeon and Judith Millott; eleven nieces and nephews, Kristin Creel, Jennifer Gagliastro, Thomas, Sam, Sara, Jake and Annie Millot, Christopher DeConza, Cassandra Carkin, Cpt. Benjamin Lessard, and Jeremy Lessard; his beloved pets, Della and Ginger. Michael was born in Worcester, son of the late, Francis and Mildred (Ryll) Lessard. Growing up in Fitchburg, he graduated from Saint Bernard’s High School and attended college there before serving in the United States Army.
Michael worked as a collections specialist for various companies throughout the area. He was an active member of the Auburn Sportsman’s Club, where he served as treasurer, event coordinator, and was known to be one of the most dedicated members. He enjoyed trips to Maine, travelling, and following Boston Sports Teams, especially the Celtics.
Michael was a jovial person who made quick conversation and fast friends with his gregarious personality and warm smile. He will be remembered for his charm and laughter.
Calling Hours will be on Saturday, July 18, from 10 am until his Prayer Service begins at 12 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will be held privately at Saint Bernard’s Cemetery in Fitchburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Froelich School of Nursing at Assumption University by visiting assumption.edu/give and selecting Schools and College, and Froelich School of Nursing.
