Michael (Mickey Action) Francalangia, Jr., 83, of Millbury, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Mickey was born in Worcester on September 5, 1940, to Michael, Sr., and Florence (Greene) Francalangia. He graduated early from South High School to enlist in the United States Navy, which he proudly served for two years of active and two years of reserve duty, including as a reconnaissance photographer. He worked for National Grid for 36 years, during which he earned an associate business degree at night from Newbury College.
Mickey cherished his wife, Sharon, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a zest for life that carried him through the years. He was beloved by them for his charm, laughter, and warm heart. Dancing with Sharon, including winning Jitterbug competitions, and family vacations to Disney World, Myrtle Beach, and elsewhere were particular joys. He was ever-present at his grandchildren’s baseball, lacrosse, hockey, and volleyball games, concerts, recitals, and graduations. Nothing gave Papa or his grandchildren greater joy than to get stuck in tickle jail or laugh at the latest Papa joke.
Mickey had a passion for playing cards and could often be found at the table, enjoying a friendly game with loved ones, or demonstrating a new card trick. His competitive and playful spirit extended to the racetrack, where he relished betting on the horses and dogs, always chasing the thrill of the win. He was a passionate Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and--much to the chagrin of his family--New York Yankees fan.
An avid golfer, Mickey spent countless hours on the green, perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of his fellow golfers. He was a member of the former Clearview Country Club, where he worked and volunteered after his retirement. He was also a dedicated bowler, participating in candlepin leagues and tournaments, where he made many lifelong friends. Mickey’s warm smile, infectious sense of humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and countless cherished memories.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sharon (Nelson) Francalangia; his loving children, Lyn Tozeski and her partner, Brian, of Shrewsbury, Mark Francalangia and his partner, Allison, of Groton, CT, and Lisa Gilliatt and her husband, Mike, of Shrewsbury; his adored grandchildren, Hayley Tozeski and her husband, Peter, of Arlington, VA, Michael Tozeski of Boston, Felicia and Mark Francalangia, Jr. of Groton, CT, Reese Brunelle of Shrewsbury, Elyse Baumann and her husband Jason of North Smithfield, RI, Matthew, Rachel, and Roman Gilliatt of Grafton; and his dear great-grandchildren Adeline, Preston, and Haylen Baumann of North Smithfield, RI.
