WORCESTER Mary B. (DiLiddo) Stewart, 97, a longtime resident of Worcester and Delray Beach, Florida, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away surrounded by family, Sunday, November 30, 2025, after a brief period of declining health. She is reunited in heaven with her husband of 50 years, George who passed away in 2005, and her grandson Ryan Collette who passed in 2004.
Mary was born in Shrewsbury, one of 10 children of Mauro and Maria (DiPasquale) DiLiddo. Raised in Shrewsbury, Mary graduated from Shrewsbury high school, she then met and married George Stewart on June 4th, 1955, they then settled in the Hamilton Street neighborhood of Worcester to raise their family, with devotion, faith and love. Mary worked as an executive assistant for the University of Massachusetts Medical School for over 17 years before retiring. Mary and George then enjoyed the summers here and winters in Delray Beach Florida.
Mary is survived by two daughters; Cheryl Laliberte and her wife Suzanne Withington of Nokomis Beach Florida; Sharon and her husband Thomas Beaudet of Worcester; a son G. Jay Stewart of Palmer; eight grandchildren, Francis, Justin, Joseph, Robert, Ronald, George, Jacob, and Alissa; 8 great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, husband George and grandson Ryan, she is predeceased by five brother;, Anthony, John, Frank, Robert and Henry DiLiddo, and four sisters, Jennie Capers, Margaret Markey, Lucy Fontaine and Theresa Shimkoski.
Mary was a member of the Our Lady of Mt Carmel Golden Years and Our Lady of Sorrows. She was an avid golfer, a member of Hillcrest Country Club ladies Golf League and the Delray Beach Country Club Ladies Golf league. Also a member of the Christian and Italian Clubs in Delray Beach, FL.
Mary had a huge heart, giant smile and quiet way, who was at her happiest when her family was around her. Whether it was sitting at the table for a card game, a family celebration or the Christmas eve feast of the seven fishes at her daughter’s house, those are the special moments that will be remembered. Mary was a skilled and shrewd card player who also enjoyed shopping, the casinos, and the bus trips with friends.
The family would like to thank Mary’s devoted caretakers; Ann, Wendy, Deb , Sonia, Genevieve, Peg and Julie. Your kindness, support and comfort will never be forgotten.
A period of calling hours will be held Monday, December 8th from 9-10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.followed by a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd where her celebration of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023, or St Jude Children’s research Hospital, 501 St Jude way, Memphis. TN.
