Mary L. Lalone

Mary L. (Simone) Lalone departed this earth on June 2, 2024.  Born in Worcester on May 2, 1925, Mary was the daughter of the late Pietro and Felicia (Zampino) Simone.

Mary’s husband, and the love of her life, Walter Lalone, predeceased her in 2018 after 73 years of marriage.   She was also predeceased by two sisters, Angela Buffone and Rose Pierce, and three brothers, Thomas, Tony, and John.  

Mary leaves a son Ronald and his wife Diane of Grafton, MA. and a devoted daughter Susan and her husband, Peter Gianonatti of Salem, MA.   

Mary graduated from David Hale Fanning Trade High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College. She retired as manager of One Hour Valetone Cleaners, after which she volunteered at Hahnemann and Memorial Hospitals.  She was a member of the Greendale Women’s Club, Guild of Our Lady of Providence, St. Vincent de Paul Society and served as team leader for the Cursillo movement for many years.  A long-time member of Immaculate Conception Church, she and her husband served as Family Life Couple in their parish as well as on the Parish Council.

Mary was an avid Red Sox fan, posing in her Red Sox shirt that was a gift on her 98^th birthday.  She enjoyed the travels abroad of her earlier years, especially to visit family in Italy.  

Mary lived independently, as was her strong desire, until a week before her passing when she was hospitalized.  Although her daughter was her main support, others contributed to help her remain at home and with a relatively good quality of life:   Joe Gulino, Meredith Neuman, Melinda Granger, Iris Martinez, Dan & Dorothy O’Connor and many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours on Monday, June 10^th from 9-10:15 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester followed by a departure in procession at 10:45 am to Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
