Maria’s life circled around the importance of family, she enjoyed family gatherings, holidays, and the love shared.
Maria (Gencarelli) Kent, 89, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Odd Fellows Home in Worcester. Her husband, Roy Kent, predeceased her in December 2021.
Maria is survived by her loving family, a son, Roy Kent, Jr. of Paxton; a daughter, Maria Dinsdale of Worcester, three grandchildren, Jennifer Bonoventura and her husband Paul, Vincent Dinsdale, and Travis Dinsdale; a great granddaughter, Olivia Bonoventura; three brothers, her twin, Michael Gencarelli of Millbury, Angelo Gencarelli of Millbury, and Joseph Gencarelli and his wife Antoinetta of Worcester; two sister, Francesca Servideo, and Antoinetta Webster, both of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Chimento, and by a brother, Vincenzo Gencarelli. Maria was born in San Giacomo, D’Arcri, Province of Cosenza, Italy, daughter of the late, Luigi and Maria Christina (Ginese) Gencarelli, where she attended school as a child, later moving to Worcester in 1959.
Maria worked for many years at UMass Hospital, where she worked in the House Keeping Department, retiring as a supervisor in 1999. She had previously worked for Groven Show and Comfort Products. She had been a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church.
Maria’s life circled around the importance of family, she enjoyed family gatherings, holidays, and the love shared. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed cooking, long walks, and shopping with her sisters.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Odd Fellows Home for the care and compassion they shared with Maria over the past three years, while she was in their care.
Family are friends are invited to gather for Calling Hours on Wednesday, September 23, from 10:30 am until her Funeral Service begins at 12 pm in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Entombment will follow at Saint John’s Mausoleum.
