Joseph A Scampini

Ret. Worc Fire Fighter, Joseph A Scampini, 82 of Worcester, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones, Thursday, May 8, 2025 after a period of health challenges.

Joe was born in Worcester the son of Joseph and Mildred P. “Millie” (Gabriel) Scampini, Stapor. Raised in Worcester, Joe was appointed to the Worcester Fire Department on April 6, 1970, serving on such trucks as Scope 1, and fire prevention before retiring. When not at the Fire House, Joe owned and operated Joe’s Cleaning Company at Komteck. In 1964, Joe married the love of his life, Priscilla A. Gouley. They then began a life of Faith, Family and Love until 2006 when Priscilla left his side. Joe continued to lead his family with wisdom and guidance.

Joe is survived his two cherished children, Pamela Holland and her husband Gary of West Boylston, Joseph J. Scampini and his wife Jennifer of Auburn; five grandchildren he adored, Elizabeth, Jeffrey and Christine Holland, Gabrielle Cardinel and her husband Jacob, and Madison Scampini; two great grandchildren, Julian and Charlotte; A Aunt, Joan Gabriele, friend and companion, Marge Metrik and a sister, Barbara Scampini. Nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, his stepfather whom he was close to Peter Stapor predeceased him.

Joe was challenged a good portion of his life, with degrading eyesight. This never detracted him from what he had to do including owning a car he couldn’t drive so some else would drive him. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1009. The Worcester Fire Credit Union. He enjoyed eating pasta and popcorn in Boynton Beach, Florida in the winter and the beaches of Cape Cod with the grandchildren in the Summer. He always had a smile or caring way.

Funeral services and burial with Priscilla in Mt View Cemetery in Shrewsbury were held privately. Memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, 600 Washington Street, Boston, Ma. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family once more.
