Joseph Muscarella, 79, of Worcester, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, August 3, 2026.

Joseph was born in Boston and a son of the late Salvatore and Helen (Tarantino) Muscarella. He spent his early years living in the North End before he and his family moved to Medford where he graduated from Medford High School. Joseph served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and his master’s degree in accounting from Bentley University. Joseph was a Certified Public Accountant and worked a majority of his career as Chief Financial Officer of C.N. Wood Co. before retiring in 2016. After his retirement, Joseph helped take care of his grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Papa.”

In 2006, Joseph’s wife of 29 years, Alice (Stewart) Muscarella passed away. After Alice’s passing, Joseph and his family ran the Falmouth Road Race every year in her honor, running his last race in 2024. He loved the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, as well as listening to music, especially Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty. He was a dedicated father and grandfather. His family loved him dearly and will miss him so much.

Joseph is survived by three children, Michael Muscarella and his wife Lindsay, Lauren Bourbeau and her husband Bill, and William Ruggiero all of Worcester; two brothers, Louis Muscarella and John Muscarella, both of Derry, N.H.; two sisters, Janice Muscarella of Seabrook, N.H. and Linda Musacarella of Melrose, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Joe, Isabella, Brody, Billy, Jack, Austin and Owen; many nieces, nephews, close friends and extended family.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 5 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester on Wednesday, August 12 at 10:00 am. Burial will be held privately at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon at a later date.

Contributing to his grandchildren’s schools and sports teams was incredibly important to Joseph. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Flagg Street PTG (Venmo @FlaggStPTG115). The funds will be divided amongst Joseph’s grandchildren’s respective schools and programs.
