Joseph J Danzilio, 92 of Durham, NH, passed away with his loved ones gathered at his bedside, Wednesday, August 10, 2022.
Joseph was born in Worcester, the son of the late, James and Catherine (Chivallati) Danzilio. Joseph in 1951, married the “Love of his Life” Catherine Valarioti. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving in the US Army Signal Corps from 1951 to 1953. He was a part of a group that established a radar school at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. After honorable discharge, Joseph and “Kitty” settled in Marlborough where they raised their family for over 40 years before joining their son and his family in Albuquerque, NM from 2005 to 2015. From 2015 through 2021, Joe and Kitty lived in Ocean City, MD. with their daughter.
Joseph attended the Deforest Radio School in Chicago, IL where he obtained an FCC 1st-class radio license. After returning to Worcester, Joe worked as a radio engineer at WORC while earning an Associates Degree from Worcester Junior College. He ultimately earned a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University and had a long career at Raytheon Company working on surface-to-air missile systems. Joe retired in 1995 and became a volunteer docent at the Worcester Art Museum, as well as the Albuquerque International Balloon Museum. Joe enjoyed classic movies and was a voracious reader of “who done-it” novels by Robert B. Parker.
A Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 13th at 11 am, in St John Cemetery, section prince of peace. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name can be made to The Worcester Art Museum, Salisbury Street, Worcester. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
