Joseph F. Borbone, 74, a lifelong resident of Worcester and public servant to the citizens of Worcester that spanned a career beginning in 1981, and ending in 2016, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep, Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2025.
An engineer by trade, and skilled transportation professional, Joe’s career was associated with traffic flow, parking enforcement, and roadwork. He began as an assistant manager, working his way to Director of Engineering for the City before retiring in 2016. Joe was responsible for over 39 employees. $65 million in annual public works projects, and each year earned praise for how he accomplished and ran his department.
He was born in Worcester, one of three children of Joseph and Barbara A. (Guilfoyle) Borbone. In 1980, Joe married the love of his life Sandra J. Hudson, they settled in the Grafton Hill neighborhood where they raised their family.
Joe leaves his wife Sandra; his two sons, Joshua H. Borbone, his wife Ashley, and their son, Jameson of Worcester, Adam J. Borbone, his wife Dawn and their two children, Landon and Juliana of Rutland; his sister-in-law, Dorothyann Borbone of Worcester; his sister-in-law Donna (Hudson) Schumann and her husband Gary of South Windsor, CT; his brother-in-law David Hudson and his wife Shirley of Uxbridge; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of friends. In addition to his parents, a brother James passed away in 2016 and sister, Marie in 2021.
Joe was an avid Golfer, and in retirement, a ranger for the Greenhill Golf Course. He loved to travel, mainly cruises with Sandra. Their favorite, being the Panama Canal, Alaska, and Hawaii cruises. He enjoyed the Red Sox, Bravehearts Baseball, and Hampton Beach. Joe was a dedicated family man, his grandchildren were the highlight of his life. When his sons were young, Joe coached baseball and was involved in the management of Tom Ash little league. In retirement, Joe loved doing projects around the house with both of his sons. The moments he spent with his family were the times that made him the happiest and will never be forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, December 4th from 3 pm to 6 pm followed by a prayer service in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Burial will be held privately.
