It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of John B. Merola, 70, of Worcester, on Saturday, June 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
John is survived by his beloved spouse, Irene (Inangelo) Merola of Worcester; his loving children, Anthony Merola and partner Shawn Powers, George Merola and partner Jahaira Woods, both of Worcester, Nanci Der Kazarian and spouse Bryan Der Kazarian of Rutland, John Pichierri and spouse Melissa Pichierri of Holden, Dawn Harding of Dorchester, his adored 7 Grandchildren and 3 Great-grandchildren, his cherished siblings, Albert Merola, Jr. of Gardner, Nancy Doyle of Mills, and Rita Merola of Boston; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in Dorchester, on July 6, 1954, John was the second child born to Albert P. and Ruth (Sutermiester) Merola. John was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Boston. John worked for many years at UMass Hospital and just retired in 2023.
John was passionate about classic antique cars and Rock and Roll, especially The Rolling Stones. He would enjoy going to concerts to hear them play live. He loved going to Nantasket beach and Red Sox games with his family. He loved his dog Ollie, his Mustang and scratch tickets. He enjoyed grilling and planting flowers in his back yard.
Though John is no longer with us and we will forever miss him, we will carry him with us in all that we do. His caring heart and selfless soul are forever ingrained into the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Calling hours will be held for John on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until his Memorial Service beginning at 6:00p.m. in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the ASPCA.
