James H Miller, 83 a lifelong resident of Worcester, passed away surrounded by the ones he loved at home, Tuesday, November 12, 2019 after a long battle with cancer.
Jim was born in Worcester, on February 7th, 1936, one of nine children of Joseph P and Charlotte (Phelps) Miller. His parents then brought Jim home to a place and area that would be known in their adult life as the “Miller Compound” in the North Lake Ave section of the city, neighbors to many of his brothers and sisters where Jim enjoyed many years spending time with his family and most of all with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim met the love of his life Yvonne M. LeBlanc, at 16, they married at 22 and spent the next 61 years together raising their family, making memories. Jim attended Worcester Public schools, served for a time in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and has lived his entire life in Worcester. Jim and his brother Jack owned and operated JJ Miller Auto Service for many years. He also worked for R&M Supplies on Shrewsbury Street.
Jim is survived by his wife Yvonne; his four children, Christine Miller and her husband Ted Pulaski, James H. Miller, Jr, Laura Cosenza and her husband Robert, Michael F. Miller and his wife Karen; 13 grandchildren, Edward and Erika Pominville, Nicole, Julia, James and Jack Miller, Ariana, Olivia, Claudia and Thomas Cosenza, Megan Bradbury, Michael and Deborah Miller; four great grandchildren, Evan White, Silas Pominville, Tanner and Cole Pulaski; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Jim is predeceased by his, 8 Siblings: Doris Becker, Shirley Ruggieri, Joseph Miller, Muriel Uppstrom, Barbara Adams, John R Miller, Paul S Miller and Marsha Bisceglia.
He loved taking trips to Ocean Beach in New London CT., tending his garden, detailing his car weekly, traveling with his wife, and the trips to the casino. He looked forward to Sunday afternoons when he could watch the Pittsburg Steelers. His most memorable pastimes were attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. His favorite time of the year was Christmas, when all his family would gather at his house in the morning to open gifts. Nothing made him happier to see the excitement of his grandchildren’s faces opening gifts.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Thursday, November 14th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Friday, November 15th from the funeral home with a procession to St John Church, 44 Temple St where his celebration of Christian burial mass will be held at 10:30 am. Burial will be private. The family request that flowers be omitted and donation in his name made to the VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas Street 01608 or the Central Mass Veterans Inc, 60 Grove Street 01608.
