James G. Forbes, 76, a longtime Worcester resident and proud retired U.S. Marine passed away Monday, January 24th, 2022, with his devoted wife by his side after a life of medical challenges.
Born in Marlborough, James one of six sons of Franklin and Irene (Beane) Forbes. He grew up in Northborough and Berlin, graduated from Worcester Boys Trade, joined the U.S Marine Corps serving his country proudly during the Vietnam War. Upon discharge and return to Worcester, James became a member of the U.S. Marine Corp reserve 25th Marine Regiment. At the beginning of Desert Storm, James was called to active duty once. He served a total of 30 years retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He has lived in Worcester for the past 28 years. A skilled machinist, tool and die maker James worked for the Neles-Jamesbury Corporation many years before retiring.
James leaves behind, his wife Donna C. (Gentile) Forbes; two sons, Scott and Timothy Forbes; a daughter Vicki; stepson, Anthony Gentile of Auburn; several grandchildren; his pet dog and best friend Katie; Many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. James was predeceased by four brothers, Richard, Franklin “Scott”, David, Curtis, and John Terrance.
James so proud of his service he was an active member of the Southbridge detachment of the Marine Corps League and notably active in its yearly Toys for Tots, the Marlboro and Northborough fish and game clubs. James loved all sports and especially enjoyed playing softball. James was also and enthusiastic History Buff, the Civil War being his favorite. James was a happy person, loved life, and found immense joy alongside his wife Donna. They had a special bond.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 28th from 4 pm to 6 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a prayer service and U.S. Marine military honors at 6 pm.
