Helen L. (Wells) Stoney

With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of Helen L. (Wells) Stoney, 94, of Westborough, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. She was the wife of the late H. Stanley Stoney, Jr., who passed away in July.

Helen was born in Baker, Oregon, on April 11, 1932, to the late Robert K. Laughlin and Alva Ruth Wilson. She grew up in California, and one of her favorite memories was attending the opening day of Disneyland in 1955 with her parents.

She was part of the Shrewsbury community where she lived for over 40 years. She became involved in the newly formed Welcome Wagon, where she became the hostess, greeting newcomers with a smile and a basketful of goodies. Her career expanded with that group, and she became a Regional Director, covering the state.

One of her social outlets was playing bridge, where she showed off her perfectly manicured hands and enjoyed playing the piano for her friends. Helen kept the group laughing with her supply of jokes and her dry sense of humor.

She was an avid reader and believed in positive thinking and the law of attraction. She faithfully researched homeopathic methodology and expanded her life and health with herbology, chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture, and holistic medicine.

Helen loved getting together with her family. Over the years, she made trips to visit her son and his family in France, as well as visits to her dear cousin, Carol, in Washington. It was usual for Helen to incorporate visits to family into her travels. In 2001, she planned a reunion in Vermont with all four of her sons, grandchildren, and cousins. It included a well-planned menu, family activities, and a photographer. It was a joyous time for all that attended. Her family has fond memories of when she would bring the family together for home-cooked meals, good company, and endless laughter into the late evening.

She is survived by her loving sons, Jeffery Stoney and his wife, Michelle, of Morrisville, Vermont; Steve Stoney of Shrewsbury; son Kevin Fenwick and his wife, Marie-Christine, who live in France, and her daughter-in-law, Karen Fenwick; her grandchildren, Tyler Stoney, Julia Fenwick, Gallagher Fenwick, Battiste Fenwick, and Naomi Fenwick; as well as great-grandchildren and many cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her son, Michael Fenwick.

A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held at a later date.
