It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the passing of H. Stanley Stoney, Jr., 88, of Shrewsbury, on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
Stanley was born in Burlington, Vermont, on August 23, 1937, to the late Howard Sr. and Muriel (Smith) Stoney.
Stanley was renowned for his love of his alma mater, Lehigh College, where he loved playing football and would always go back to watch his beloved football team play his favorite rivals. After college, he entered the Industrial Gas industry, where he developed a passion for it and later owned his own company, North East Welding Supply. He was always proud of his service in the Marine Corps, which led him to join the Ancient Honorable Artillery Club of Massachusetts, where he loved being able to give back through their efforts.
He is survived by his wife, Helen L. Stoney; his sons, Jeffery Stoney and his wife, Michelle, of Morrisville, Vermont, and Steve Stoney of Shrewsbury; daughter-in-law Karen Fenwick; step-son Kevin Fenwick and his wife, Marie-Christine; his grandchildren, Tyler Stoney, Julia Fenwick, Gallagher Fenwick, and Batestie Fenwick; as well as great-grandchildren and many cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Stanley was predeceased by his uncles, aunts, and stepson.
Stanley will be remembered with great affection by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Stanley on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 1:00 pm until his Memorial Service at 2:00 pm in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Stanley’s memory to Toys for Tots.
