Gloria Montalvan

June 11, 1949 — December 2, 2023

Gloria Montalvan, 74, of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023, surrounded by loving family at UMass Hospital.

Gloria is survived by the love of her life for forty-eight years, Jorge R. Torres; a son, Jackdier Lozada and his wife Agnieszka of Worcester; three daughters, Karen Delossantos of Auburn, Sonia Torres of Worcester, and Gloria Torres and her fiancé David Montanez of Worcester; two brothers, Robert Montalban of PR, and Rufino Montalvan of Staten Island; two sisters, Isabel Montalvan of FL, and Lydia Montalvan in PR; eight grandchildren, Mikayla Lozada, Emily Lozada, Tatiana Young and her husband Tyler, Tiana Delossantos, Javier Torres, Ganessa Torres, Jazavious Maisonet, and Jaziah Montanez; a great grandson, Troy Young; many nieces and nephews, including Marta Vandale, who was like a daughter to Gloria.  She was predeceased by a brother and two sisters, Luis Montalban, Maria Montalvan, and Irma Montalvan.

Gloria was born in Cidra, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Rufino Montalvan and Alejandrina Gonzalez.  She moved to Worcester in the late 1960’s.  She later attended both, Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester State College, receiving a Certificate and bi-lingual studies. Gloria worked as a teacher’s aide with the bilingual programs at Belmont Street School and at Roosevelt School, retiring in 2013. 

Gloria was a member of Saint Peter’s Church.  She enjoyed time with her family and shared her love with everyone.  She was never judgmental and always found good in any situation.  Her family was her life, and she cherished every moment she could be surrounded by them.  She enjoyed good times and “The Wonder of It All”, while visiting Native American reservations.

Calling Hours will be on Thursday, December 7, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  Her Funeral will be on Friday from the funeral home, departing at 9:35 a.m. in procession to a 10 a.m. Liturgy of The Word Service at Saint Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street, Worcester.
