George K Moossa, Sr.

George K. Moossa, Sr.  of Shrewsbury and Venice Florida passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, January 26, 2023, in Venice Florida. George was 100 years old.

George was born in Worcester, one of eight children of Anthony and Mary (Karam) Moossa.  Raised in Worcester, George graduated from Commerce High school.  As a young man of 20, he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II serving his country proudly aboard the U.S.S. Santa Fe, a light cruiser that saw intense combat action in the Pacific Theater from the Aleutians, to the Philippines, to Iwo Jima. George was a member of the American occupation of Japan.  Upon discharge he returned to Worcester and married the “Love of his life” Mabel A. Nader.   They then spent the next 67 years dedicated to each other, family and faith, in Shrewsbury.  Mabel left his side on September 3rd, 2012.  George lived in Venice Florida for the last twelve years. He owned and operated the Grafton Hill Package Store.

George is survived by his three daughters, Maryann Belinskas of Shrewsbury, Catherine R. Moossa of Marlborough, Barbara P. Roughan and her husband John of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; a cherished granddaughter Tracey Belinskas Roach and her husband Paul Roach of Millbury; two great grandchildren Shane and Dylan Belinskas; Many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.  In addition to his parents and wife Mabel, a son, George K. Moossa, Jr, grandson Keith Belinskas, son in law, David Belinskas, five brothers, John, Karam, Arthur, Walter and Joseph Moossa and two sisters, Anna Dowd, and Elizabeth Kavalita, all predeceased him. 

George was a member of Our Lady of Mercy church, the Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury and its, 4th degree Bishop O’Reilly assembly. A lifelong member and past president of National Apostolate of Maronites, and a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 4, in Worcester. He enjoyed deep sea fishing tending his garden, yard and sailing.  George notably built his own sailboat. 

A period of calling hours will be held Thursday, February 2nd from 9 am to 10:30 am in the MERCANDANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. followed by a procession to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 341 June street where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am  Burial with Military honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 341 June St Worcester
