George J Montville, Jr.

December 31, 1929 — August 5, 2022

George J. Montville, Jr., 92, of Charlton, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loving family.  He is reunited with his beloved wife, Catherine “Kay” Montville, who predeceased him in March 2018.

George is survived by his son Donald J. Montville and wife Jennifer and their children Laura Moreno and husband Eric, Donald Jr., Brian and his wife Emily, and Patrick; son Thomas F.   Montville and wife Susan and their children Sean and fiancée Courtney and Rachael Pfizenmaier and husband Todd; daughter Mary Leslie and husband Stephen and their children Jennifer Leslie and husband Rob, Daniel and wife Jaylynn, and Kevin and fiancée Kaitlyn; and son Richard and wife Patricia and their children Christopher, Connor and Joseph. George also leaves behind 6 great grandchildren, Avery and Brady Leslie, Landon and Brooklyn Chain, Lucy Moreno and Henry Pfizenmaier, and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Abbott.

George was born in Worcester, son of the late George J. Sr. and Ella M. (Heirtzler) Montville and graduated from North High School.  He lived most of his life on “Grafton Hill”, while summering in Charlton, before settling permanently in Charlton in 1999.  He was a former member of Saint Stephen’s Parish in Worcester but was most recently a communicant of Saint Joseph Church in Charlton.

George served his nation proudly in the United States Army and achieved the rank a Sergeant First Class.  He served in Korea during the Korean Conflict, with the 2nd Infantry Division, 37th FA Bn. SFC.

George worked as a telephone technician for New England Telephone and Telegraph for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1991, and was thankful to have enjoyed retirement for almost as long as he worked.  He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, the VFW, and the 2nd Infantry Division Association.  He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Korean War Memorial of Central Mass, and the IBEW, Local 2325.

The family would like to acknowledge his wonderful caregivers, Michelle Borowski, Jess Folger, Anne Marie Morrissey, Alicia St. Laurent and especially Pam Letourneau for the love and kindness they showed our dad and for the health care he received from the Harrington Health Care System and Care Central VNA and Hospice Healthcare in Webster.

Calling Hours for George will be on Wednesday, August 10, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  His Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, August 11, at 11 a.m. in Saint Joseph Church, 10 H. Putnam Road Ext., Charlton, MA.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Veteran’s Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
