Listen to Obituary

Francis Edward “Fran” Capuano, 63, of Leicester, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, after a courageous 14-year battle with cancer.

Fran was born on December 14, 1962, in Worcester, the second son of the late Joseph N. and Barbara Ann (O’Connor) Capuano. He was raised and educated in Worcester, growing up on Bell Hill and in Quinsigamond Village, and graduated from Burncoat Senior High School, Class of 1980.

Fran was a natural athlete in his younger years, especially known for his baseball talent, pitching both right- and left-handed. He had a lifelong love of golf—playing, watching, and always eager for another round. He participated in golf leagues year-round whenever possible and traveled across the country with fellow golfers, enjoying not only the game but the camaraderie and challenge of new courses. Fran was also a devoted fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins. At home, he enjoyed working on projects around the house and relaxing with word search puzzles. He loved music and remained friends with fellow members of his childhood band.

Professionally, Fran worked for Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) and later Quantum, where he traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally—including Indonesia and Singapore—training others and troubleshooting technical issues. He later owned and operated his own painting company for many years. Fran was also the co-owner of Giuseppe’s Grille in Northborough, where he proudly served dishes made from cherished Capuano family recipes.

Fran is survived by his siblings: Joseph Capuano, Jr. of Worcester; Teresa Capuano and her partner Nathan Leiby of Bristol, RI; and Paul and Christine Capuano of California. He found great joy in spending time with his niece Amanda Capuano and her family, Brian and Logan Uppstrom of Millbury; his nephews Gino Capuano and his son Matteo of North Oxford; and Nicholas Capuano, Danielle Mahoney, and their son Frankie of West Boylston. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of dear friends. In recent years especially, the love, friendship, and support of those around him meant the world to Fran and his family.

In addition to his parents, Fran was predeceased by his grandparents, Edward and Milinia (Viens) O’Connor (“Papa Charlie” and “Grammy”), Giuseppe and Teresa (Tritone) Capuano; his aunt, Constance “Aunt Connie” Capuano, who helped raise the Capuano siblings after their mother’s passing, and his great-nephew Enzo Capuano. He was also predeceased by his beloved dogs, Shamrock and Ginny, who brought him great comfort and companionship.

The family would like to express our gratitude to our cousin Earl Fanion who devoted himself to helping Fran throughout his long battle. We are forever grateful. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Compassus Hospice - especially Mansi, Tracy, Medjina, and Maria—for their compassionate care and support during Fran’s final days.
