Ernest “Ernie” S. Desabre, 86, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, at Beaumont Rehabilitation in Westborough.
Ernie was predeceased by his wife Virginia “Ginny” Desabre, his son Daniel Desabre, his brother Ronald Morin and his longtime companion Linda Hines.
He is lovingly remembered by his sisters and brother William Desabre of Charlton, Massachusetts, Carol Kissel of Atwater, Ohio, and Linda Tremblay of Brandon, Florida. He also leaves behind stepdaughter, Kelly Blodgett, and his grandchildren Jayden, Ava, and Evelyn of Worcester, Massachusetts, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Born in Worcester, Ernie was the son of William Desabre and Dorothy Morin. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. After his service, he devoted 55 years to the Worcester Public Library, beginning as the bookmobile driver and retiring late 2018.
Sports were a constant joy in Ernie’s life. If you spent time with him, chances were high a game was playing in the background. He was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, and the New England Patriots, celebrating wins and riding out losses with equal dedication. He also loved shooting darts and playing pool, and bowling competing in leagues throughout his life, and at home he was always ready for a friendly game of cribbage.
Though he never remarried, Ernie was deeply devoted to his family and treasured time spent together. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Loreto Church and especially enjoyed the Italian festivals. He also cherished summer trips to Old Orchard Beach and vacations in Florida.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Beaumont Rehabilitation, Chaplain Brian, and the hospice team who cared for Ernie over the past two years. Their compassion and kindness brought him comfort and peace.
Private services will be held at a later date.
