Listen to Obituary

Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Valeri) Wilder, 81, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in the comfort of her immaculate home, surrounded by loving family.

Betty, as she was lovingly known, is survived by her two children, Sherri Crawford and David Wilder and his wife Rosemarie; a niece and nephew; cousins, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia A. Takacs. Betty was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, Ernest and Anna (Ciccarelli) Valeri, and lived in Worcester most of her life.

Betty loved the relationships she formed over the years and was most happy when surrounded by her children and the extended family she cultivated over the years. She enjoyed yearly vacations to Old Orchard Beach and was thrilled to have had the opportunity to visit Switzerland, Italy, the Christmas Market River Cruise in Europe, and the joy of Walt Disney World.

Betty was a loan consultant for over twenty years with Central One Credit Union, retiring in 2014; she had previously worked at WCIS and Bradlee’s Department Store. Betty enjoyed her routine and anyone who knew her could tell you that it was hard to get her to go “off course”; she worked a job that she enjoyed, she started her weekends maintaining her immaculate home and gardens, and Sunday’s were for cooking and enjoying dinner with family. Ultimately it was her family that brought her the greatest joy of all.

Betty’s family would like to thank the incredible people of Summit Elder Care and the Visiting Angels, for the care and compassion they shared with Betty, ultimately allowing her to remain in the comfort of her home.

Calling Hours will be on Tuesday, July 14, from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, July 15, at 10 am in the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
