Elizabeth "Betty" Lamusta

October 26, 1938 — November 5, 2019

Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Carey) Lamusta, 81, of Worcester passed away surrounded by loved ones Tuesday, November 5, 2019. 

Betty was born and raised in Worcester a daughter of John J. and Arlene M. (Smith) Carey.  She graduated from Commerce High School and the former Ward school of Business and worked in a job she loved at Norton Company in the administrative offices for over 25 years before retiring. 

She leaves behind her cherished family,  daughter Sharon DiVitto and her husband Michael of Whitinsville,  son Michael R Lamusta and his fiance Mary Ryan of Worcester, and daughter  Jennifer H. Lamusta Howard  of Shrewsbury and  son in law, John C. Howard; five grandchildren, Dante Lamusta and his wife Priscilla, Olivia Lamusta, Bianca DiVitto, Harrison and Juliet Howard;  three great grandchildren Aaron, Abigail and Avery.  Betty also leaves her siblings, John J. Carey of Poughkeepsie NY, Robert E. Carey of Rome, Georgia, Patricia Berthiaume and her husband Ralph of Worcester, and Christine Carey of Westminster; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.  Betty was predeceased by her former husband Edward R. Lamusta, two sisters, Kathleen Carey, and Deborah Byrne.

Betty was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church.  A gracious woman who had a strong devotion to her family and loved ones.  She loved to entertain whether it was her family, friends or neighbors.  Betty was always caring for her aunts, cousins and friends and would never let anyone be alone for the holidays.  Her home was always open to family and friends to join her family for home cooked dinners.  Betty enjoyed her weekly card club, bingo and taking cruises with friends.  She supported many charities including Maryknoll Missionaries, The Bishop's Fund, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Food for the Poor,  and  Christian Children’s Fund.  

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Monday, November 11th from 4 pm to 7 pm at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester MA.  Her funeral service will be held Tuesday from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 35 Fales Street, Worcester MA where her rite of Christian burial Mass will be held at 10:00 am.  Burial will follow in St John Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to St Jude Children’s hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, [email protected].

The Lamusta family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Kindred Transitional Care and Hospice for the care, comfort and compassion they gave to Betty during a difficult time.
