David W Hannus

David W. Hannus, 77, of Worcester, formerly of West Boylston passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 17, 2022, with loved ones gathered at his side.

David was born in Chelsea, Mass the son of David V and Eleanor (Airey) Hannus. Raised in Woburn, he graduated from Woburn High school, joined the U.S. Coast Guard serving his country proudly during the Vietnam War. He then raised his family and lived many years in Bourne, before coming to Worcester.

David was a HVAC technician and contractor. He founded, operated, and guided his own Company, Hannus Construction and later Co-energy America before retiring.

David is survived by his three children, David M. Hannus of Ware, Michael Hannus of Providence R.I. and Julie Clifford and her husband Jeffrey of Medford: a brother Richard in Methuen, and a sister, Susan Doherty in Lunenburg. David  also had five grandchildren he found so much Joy and pride with, Jacob, Abigail, Thomas, Emmett, and Finnian: Nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. A brother, Frederick predeceased him.

David, enjoyed living on the Cape, fishing the Cape Cod Canal and the Ocean, boating, Red Sox, New England Patriots and as a youth spending a lot of time at the ocean park in Salem called the “Salem Willows.”  David was an enthusiastic History buff of the United States founding and its fight for independence. He was keenly interested and knowledgeable in politics and would engage in interesting debate on any subject.

In keeping with David’s wishes there are no services planned. David will be laid to rest in the Veterans National Cemetery in his hometown of Bourne. Memorial remembrances in his name can be made to VETS INC. 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA  01608. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
