Charles Joseph Genovesi

Charles Joseph Genovesi, 102 of Worcester, formerly on Holden, died on Monday, August 3, 2026. Charles was born in Holden, MA, son of the late Joseph and Lucia “Lizzie” (Cerasuolo) Genovesi. He is survived by his best friend of 21 years, Elio Sonsini whom he lived with and cared for Charles until his passing. He is also survived by many cousins and friends. A brother, Samuel G. Genovesi, pre-deceased him.

Charles was an active communicant of Saint Anne Parish of Shrewsbury, faithfully serving as a sacristan and as a member of the parish Finance Committee.

A 1942 graduate of Holden High School, Charles entered the United States Armed Forces in 1943, as a soldier in the Regular Army Air Corps during WWII. He was attached to the 24th Technical School Squadron. Upon his discharge from the Army, he attended the New England School of Accounting and graduated in 1946.

For over 72 years, Charles was employed by The Marrone Family as an accountant, first, for The Marrone Petroleum Company of Worcester and then for The Wachusett Country Club of West Boylston.

Since 2004, Charles served as a dedicated volunteer at the Notre Dame du Lac Assisted Living Center in Worcester, where he was a Minister of Holy Communion, the leader of the Holy Rosary on Wednesday afternoons, and one of the operators of the in-house store. In 2005, he was elected “Volunteer of the Year” by the Massachusetts ALSA for his compassionate and devoted service to the residents and staff of Notre Dame.

Charles was a member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Mount Carmel Council #13575 and a Fourth Degree Knight of the Bishop O’Reilly Assembly. He was also a member of the Greendale Men’s Club and the Order of the Sons of Italy in America, Worcester Lodge #168.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 5-7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 8th at 10:00 am at Saint Anne Parish, Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Saint Mary Cemetery, Jefferson, MA.
