Listen to Obituary

Arthur K. Bonney (Art), 73 of Worcester, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

Art was born in Quincy, MA., a son of the late William and Dorothy (Erickson) Bonney. Shortly thereafter his family moved to Franklin, MA where Art would go on to grow up in the Coronation Drive neighborhood. He was a graduate of Franklin High School and known for his intelligence which was exemplified in his senior year with a listing in The Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Art was very proud of becoming an Eagle Scout and lived the motto of be prepared (he carried a band aid in his wallet, up until his passing, just in case). He was an experienced drummer and played in many youthful rock bands until his later college years. Art progressed his education by taking college courses in electrical engineering at Lowell University and Northeastern University. He later earned his bachelor's degree in business management from Daniel Webster College by taking night classes.

Art is survived by his son, Arthur “Artie” Bonney of South Boston, MA; sisters and brothers, Cynthia “Cindy” Bonney, Eric Bonney, and William “Bill” Bonney.

Throughout his life, Art loved working collaboratively with people especially when it came to cutting edge technology. In the first half of his career he worked for Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) moving up from Support Desk to North America Continent Support Engineer. He was proud of his time at Digital and thought it to be the highlight of his professional career. He continued to grow with DEC through several subsequent mergers and acquisitions culminating in DEC ultimately being acquired by Hewlett Packard and relocating most of its operations to Houston, TX. Then, following his passion for helping people with technology, he took on customer service roles with Circuit City and then later with Best Buy where he made many friends, both coworkers and customers alike. He continued his career at Dovetail Internet Technologies as a customer success/tech support representative where he built meaningful relationships with his client base by solving their technical problems.

Art engaged with everyone he met in the world with a warm smile and friendly demeanor. He saw the good in people and had a talent for cheering people on, or cheering them up after a hard day. He was known for sharing small personal gifts with coworkers and friends, just because. He was generous with his time and an over-tipper. He was curious about the world and was a spiritual person. An early adopter of technology, he was always willing to discuss the newest generation of consumer level technologies, or help someone troubleshoot their issues.

He found beauty in photography and developed the hobby for capturing moments in nature and, his favorite subject, taking portraits of people. For a period of time, he even taught some photography classes at a local community college. There he introduced his students to the principles of photography and how to get the most out of their digital camera.

He loved being in nature and found beauty in each tree, ripple across a pond, and scurrying creature (including caterpillars). He took many hikes to the tops of peaks within the White Mountains, along the Quabbin Reservoir and into the hills of Central Massachusetts.

When at home, he enjoyed listening to music, playing sci-fi/fantasy computer games, or reading sci-fi/fantasy fiction novels. He was a huge fan of Everquest and proud of his dwarf avatar when he played as Artabrew. (He liked craft beer as well). Later in life, he found the benefits of acupuncture and would routinely go once a week to The Acupuncture Treatment Center in Worcester both for the therapy and the company of the attending students. He was intrigued with their lives and their choice to pursue acupuncture.

A celebration of Art’s life will be held in the Greater Worcester area in the coming months to provide a moment for those he has touched during his life to pay their respects. Location and date TBD.

MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making donations to further access to the healing benefits of acupuncture that warmed Art’s life: NESA Acupuncture Treatment Center, 19 Norwich Street, Worcester, MA 01608,
