Anthony J. Morano, Jr., 72, of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at UMass Hospital, with his two sons at his bedside.
Anthony is survived by his two sons, Michael R. Morano and Matthew J. Morano, both of Grafton; nieces, nephews, friends, and countless lives he’s touched. Anthony was born in Worcester, son of the late, Anthony and Yvonne (Krosnowski) Morano and has lived here all his life. He graduated from Saint Peter’s High School and from Worcester State University with a bachelor’s degree in education.
Anthony worked for many years at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office at the House of Correction as a Teacher in the Re-Entry Training Program, where he mentored and trained many people to re-enter society.
Anthony spent much of his life helping others and was recently recognized by and inducted into the Worcester Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame for his dedication to the organization. He volunteered with the Friendly House and Guild of Saint Agnes, the Italian Festival, the Italian Heritage Parade, and the Bishop’s Dinner.
Anthony spent many years coaching his son’s youth sports teams, and he took great pride in Boston professional sports teams, he was especially proud to have spent the evening with one of his sport idols from the Boston Bruins, Bobby Orr, at the Worcester County Sheriff's Association Swearing In Ceremony. He was easily recognized as a regular walker at Lake Park in Worcester, where he could exercise and socialize at the same time.
Anthony was a good soul, who went above and beyond to help others, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Calling Hours will be on Monday, June 29, from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, June 30, at 11 am at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Road, Worcester. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Re-Entry Services Division in care of the Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s Association (WCRDS), 240 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
