Angelo “Il Presidente” Arcuri, 93, of Worcester passed away surrounded by family, Thursday, December 7, 2023 after a period of declining health.
Angelo was born in Acri, province of Cosenza Italy the son of Santo and Domenica (Fiore) Arcuri. Raised in Acri, Angelo served in the Italian Army, married the “Love of his Life” Palma Caliguri on December 22, 1950, and began their family. In 1969, Angelo immigrated his family to the United States and came to Worcester. He then accepted a position with Amorello Construction Company, and the Local 243, laborers’ union.
Angelo’s wife of 68 years Palma passed away on September 7, 2018. He is survived by his dedicated, and loving family that made his life enriched with love, three sons, Santo Arcuri and his wife Teresa, Salvatore Arcuri and wife Franca all of Worcester, David Arcuri and his wife Vanessa of Grafton; three daughters, Domenica Conte and her husband Tony of Auburn, Concetta “Connie” Ritacco and her husband Mario of Sutton, Ivana Pellegrino and her husband Cosimo of Worcester; fourteen grandchildren: 10 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends both here in the U.S., France and home in Italy.
Angelo was a long-time member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, the Worcester Lodge Sons of Italy, and its Bocce league as a member of the team “Italia” and the Laborers Union Local 243 in Worcester. As the patriarch of his family Angelo was all about family and loved nothing more than to have his entire family around him. Highlights and special moments in Angelo’s life were those spent with his sons, and son in-laws, making supi sausage, wine, his garden, sitting on the porch with Palma and a glass or two of wine where they would share endless stories of their home in Acri. Angelo was also a avid, Inter Soccer team fanatic.
The Arcuri family would like to thank the staff at St Francis Home for all the love and care they provided to Angelo as well as Elvira Brindisi, Sergio and Maurizio Arcuri for the care they gave Angelo in his home.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 11th from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His funeral will be on Tuesday, December 12th from the funeral home with a Mass at 12 noon in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Road, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery.
