Alice L. Carey

Alice L. (Galipeau) Carey, 86, of Leicester, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in the comfort of her home. She is reunited with her husband of forty-five years, Ronald F. Carey, Sr., who died in September 2025.

Alice is survived by two daughters, Susan Welch, with whom she lived, and Debra Carey and her husband Ronald Carey, Jr. of Brookfield; four stepchildren; nine grandchildren, including Karen Lemay, who was her primary caregiver; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by four daughters, Theresa Zak, Lorie Gadbois, Karon Gadbois and Anita Gadbois; her son in law, James Welch; and by two brothers and two sisters, Joseph and Roland Galipeau, Rita Nash, and Jeannette Panetta. Alice was born in Westfield, daughter of the late, Polydore and Admeline (Carrignan) Galipeau. She graduated from Chicopee High School and later from Becker Junior College and Quinsigamond Community College.

Alice worked for many years as a food service supervisor at Spring Valley Nursing Home. She enjoyed “flea marketing”, cooking, baking, puzzle books, card games and tending to her gardens. She had a great affection for animals and loved the many pets she and Ronald had over the years.

The family would like to thank the great people, angels really, at Gentiva Hospice, especially her primary nurse, Nance, for the great care, comfort, and dignity they shared with Alice.

Calling Hours for Alice will be on Tuesday, May 19, from 10 am until her Prayer Service begins at 11 am in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
