Gina Angilella

April 2, 1946 — November 12, 2007

Gina (Padua) Angilella, 61, of Worcester, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 11th surrounded by her devoted family at the UMASS Memorial Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Gina is survived by her beloved husband and partner of 41 years Vincenzo "Enzo" Angilella; her adoring son Andrew "Drew" Angilella of Worcester; a brother, Guglielmo "Mimo" Padua, and his wife Isabella; a sister, Santina Altamura and her husband Pasquale all of Aprila, Italy. Many nieces, nephews, god-children and a host of friends. Gina was born in Tripoli, Libya, the daughter of Giuseppe and Anna (Ingallinesi) Padua and has lived in Worcester since 1966. Gina devoted her days to caring for the Priest's at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, many years before retiring. She previously worked as a cook for 18 years at the former Firehouse Café in Worcester. At onetime she was a stitcher for the Worcester Gear Works Company. Gina a devoted member of her church and the Italian community, was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, Saint Ann's Parish, co-chairing with her husband the Italian Festival for seven years and was involved in the Church Bazaar as well as many other church functions. She was an active and honored member of the Lodge 168 Order Sons of Italy in America. Gina and her husband chaired many of the organization's committees including Carnivale, Columbus Day Parade and Columbus Day Festivals. She also played Bocce, and was honored as grand marshal of the Columbus Day parade and Outstanding Italian of the year. She also coordinated many New Years Eve celebrations at the Biscegliese Society and Calabria Club's, at the Pope John Knights of Columbus Hall and at Anthony's Restaurant. She loved her flowers and was an avid gardener. Gina enjoyed traveling with her husband to Italy and on Cruises and just being with her family and friends. The funeral will be held Wednesday, November 14th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Celebration of Life mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Friends and family are invited to visit with Gina's family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 13th in the funeral home.
