Santina "Sandy" A. (Galli) Vuona, of 631 Salisbury Street in Worcester, formerly of Paxton, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2009 at the Jewish Healthcare Center. Her husband of fifty-one years, Albert J. Vuona, Sr. predeceased her in 2006. Mrs. Vuona is survived by a son, Albert J. Vuona Jr. and his wife Kimberly and their daughter, Callie of Worcester; a daughter, Cheryl A. Dyer and her children, Sean and Brianna of Holden; a sister Amelia Menard and her husband Albert of Worcester; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son in law, David M. Dyer and by a brother, Coradino Galli. Born in Worcester, a daughter of Alfredo and Maria (Recchi) Galli, she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Worcester. She grew up in Worcester and later moved to Paxton with her husband, to raise their family and grandchildren. Mrs. Vuona spent many years raising her family and making sure that their home was comfortable, all while working beside her husband in the uniform apparel business. She had previously worked for the former Melville Shoe Company. She was a member of Saint Columba Church in Paxton, but also attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Worcester. She was an excellent cook and baker and was the subject of several articles in the Worcester Telegram, during the 1960's. A calling hour for Mrs. Vuona will be held Wednesday morning, January 6, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations in her memory be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
