Louis A. Prestes, 84 of Worcester passed away with family gathered at his side Monday, December 11, 2017. Louis was born in Worcester, on May 9, 1933 the son of Anthony and Irene (Kallio) Prestes. Raised in Worcester, Louis graduated from Commerce High School and joined the U.S. Navy serving his country proudly during the Korean War. Louis then met and married the “Love of his life for the next 44 years, Doris A. Beaucage. Together they settled in Worcester and were blessed with eight children, where they lived a life of family, love, devotion and dedication. Louis worked as a foreman for many years for the City of Worcester, Department of Parks and Recreation retiring as foreman of Hope Cemetery. Louis wife Doris passed away in 1998. He is survived by his devoted family; eight children: Joseph Prestes and his wife Susan of N. Grafton; Robert Prestes and his wife Ellen of Thompson, CT; Paul Prestes and his wife Mary of Sturbridge; Thomas Prestes and his husband Casey Whitaker of Atlanta; Maryjean Brinkman and her husband Ray of North Carolina; Carol Mannila and her husband John of Worcester, with whom he lived; twin daughters, Denise Prestes and her partner Stephanie O’Rourke of S. Carolina, and Donna Prestes of Worcester; a sister, Mary Thibodeau of Worcester; eleven grandchildren he cherished; Brian & Mark Prestes, Lisa Bichajian, Melissa Rosado, Keri Roberts, Daniel & Andrea Prestes, Lauren Zborowski, Robin Stolberg, Matthew and Timothy Mannila; 14 great grandchildren, Madison, Bentley, Owen, Olivia, Rachel, Sarah, Eve, Ella, Benjamin, Kate, Natalie, Lukas, Kade and Jack. Many nieces and nephews. Louis was a beautiful person who led a simple life devoted to his wife, children, grand and great-grandchildren. He truly believed that family was most important and had room in his heart for everyone he met. He was very generous with his love, time and resources, helping anyone he could. His passing leaves a hole in our hearts but his loving and caring soul will not be forgotten. Louis was a devoted card giver, who never missed a card for any occasion. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching golf and baseball. One of Louis favorite pastimes was dining at Ronnie’s and the Sole Proprietor with family. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Thursday, December 14th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be celebrated Friday, December 15th from the funeral home with a procession to St John’s Church, 44 Temple Street where his funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the cemetery where he worked, Hope Cemetery.
